Der Body-Mass-Index, ist eine Einheit, mit welcher der Aktuelle Körperbau einer Person schnell und vergleichbar Dargestellt werden kann. Entwickelt wurde er ursprünglich von Adolphe Quètelet um bei Lebensversicherungen eine Aussage über den Gesundheitsgrad treffen zu können.
Der BMI berechnet sich aus folgender Formel :
(Masse in Kilogramm und Größe in Zentimeter)
Nachteil des BMIs ist, das die größe “Gewicht” keine sehr gute Bezugsquelle ist. Zum Beispiel kann man damit einen sehr muskulösen Menschen nicht von einem übergewichtigen Menschen unterscheiden, da ja beide das selbe Gewicht haben können.
